Paramount Pictures is delaying the release of the long-awaited Top Gun 2 from 2019 to 2020.
Filming had begun on the project in May before star Tom Cruise needed to leave the set to carry out duties promoting Mission Impossible Fallout.
The official reason for the change relates to the time required to produce the flight action sequences.
Initial Filming Pre-shoots
Filming on the sequel initially began on May 31, 2018. Tom Cruise acknowledged the milestone with a well-received tweet:
The plot has been kept under wraps but it is known that Cruise’s character Maverick will be playing the role of an instructor.
Cruise’s co-star of the original movie, Val Kilmer is returning in the role as Iceman.
