1982 was dominated by the Falklands Conflict between the UK and Argentina. Argentina invaded on the 2nd April leading to a British Task Force setting sail to reclaim the Islands.
1983 saw Breakfast Television arrive on television. Margaret Thatcher, Conservative Prime Minister wins a landslide victory in the general election.
1984 saw major events including the Miners Strike, The Olympic Games in Los Angeles and the music industry recording the Band Aid Single.
1985 saw the continuation of the miner’s strike, the Manchester Air Disaster, Bradford City FC Fire, and Heysel Tragedies. Live Aid was a bright spot.
The Labour Party carry out a purge, Prince Andrew ties the knot, and Eastenders racks up 30 million viewers on Christmas Day. Welcome to 1986.
Margaret Thatcher re-elected. Michael Ryan carries out Hungerford rampage, IKEA open’s it first store in the UK and the SAS kill 8 members of the IRA at Loughgall.
1988 saw the Piper Alpha and Lockerbie tragedies, a US presidential visit to the UK, and the Seoul Olympics.
1989 saw the Hillsborough Tragedy , ordination of women in the Church of England and a televised House of Commons.
